Dr. Sargent

My great-great-grandfather on my mother’s side of the family.

A highly respected medical doctor who served with the North during the American Civil War.

After the Civil War was over Dr. Sargent returned to upper State New York and became a country doctor.

A God fearing man he would not leave room for any kind of vanity in his granddaughters and when they would ask him if he thought they were pretty he would reply in such a way that left no room for them to be proud – even when they were pretty.

Eli could also play the organ and sing.

My grandmother, Noni and her sister Helen, spent some very happy times during their high school years living with their grandfather, Eli and their grandmother Mamie.

They were both very well cared for and loved and Noni had fond memories of that time with her grandfather, Dr. Sargent.
